CMH implements Positive Deviance workshop at the Dutch Public Health Congress

15 April 2013
On Wednesday 4th of April 2013 the Center for Media & Health (CMH) implemented a Positive Deviance workshop at the Dutch Public Health congress. Positive Deviance is a innovative research approach to social change, which enables people to discover the health wisdom they already have and to act on it. Why is it that in some communities certain individuals or institutions perform uncommon behaviors or practices which enable them to find better solutions to problems than their peers who have access to the same resources?

The aim of the workshop was to give various insights into the Positive Deviance  approach for social change. The Center for Media & Health shared her experiences of the first Positive Deviance project in the Netherlands, which is designed and implemented by the CMH and partners on how to increase mental resilience amongst youngsters who are vulnerable to depression and  anxiety disorders. During the workshop the participants also discussed about how they can integrate the PD approach in their own work environment.

Quotes from the participants:

“What a great workshop and how nice that we were inspired to think about the application of PD ideas in our own work life.”

“PD is a really interesting new approach. Thank you for the great workshop.”
